The Kalimpong Sakya Monastery, in West Bengal, is the only Sakya monastery in the region and, as such, is a project of preeminent importance to His Holiness the Sakya Trizin. Under the able guidance of Khondung Ratna Vajra Rinpoche, efforts toward making it a reality have borne fruit in a well-planned monastic community, with a suitable infrastructure and a balanced curriculum in place. Construction of new buildings to accommodate the monastery's 150 resident monks is near completion, and the monks will soon be able to move to their new quarters. The monastery will eventually house some 250 monks.

Rituals are an important component in the continuity of monastic traditions, and one of the essential functional points of contact between the monastic and lay communities, benefitting both.
