IN MEMORIAM:
DRAKPA ZAMPO (1937-2012)

Early in the morning of the 29th of August, Drakpa Zampo, affectionately known as Drakpa la to those close to him, passed away at the age of 75 at the Sakya Dolma Phodrang in Rajpur. Drakpa la was the longest-standing attendant at the Phodrang. He had seen the birth of three generations of the Khön family. All at the Phodrang pray that he may have a fortunate rebirth where he may once again be at his gurus’ side.



LONG-LIFE CEREMONY FOR H.H. JIGDAL DAGCHEN RINPOCHE: On the 6th of December, 2012, His Holiness the Sakya Trizin presided over a Long-Life ceremony held at the Sakya Centre for His Holiness Jigdal Dagchen Rinpoche. The latter was accompanied by his son H.E. Zaya Vajra Rinpoche and by his wife, H.E. Dagmo Jamyang Sakya. At the ceremony, Khöndung Ratna Vajra Rinpoche offered H.H. Dagchen Rinpoche a mandala of the universe, while Khöndung Gyana Rinpoche presented him with symbolic offerings of long life. All three generations of the Sakya Dolma Phodrang were present at the ceremony and offered H.H. Dagchen Rinpoche their respects. H.E. Luding Khen Rinpoche made a mandala offering on behalf of Ngor Monastery.


TARA THREAD DIVERTING
RITUAL FOR WORLD PEACE:
From the 8th to the 12th of November, 2012, His Holiness presided over a five-day ritual at the Sakya Centre in Rajpur whose aim was to promote world peace and harmony and to pacify all obstacles to the long life and fulfillment of the noble aspirations of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and of all great Dharma holders.

It also aspired to appease all disease, conflicts, disasters and calamities and to establish peace the world over.


CELEBRATING H.E. LUDING KHENCHEN RINPOCHE’S 83RD BIRTHDAY: On the 29th of October, 2012, Khöndung Ratna Vajra Rinpoche visited the Ngor Monastery in Manduwala in order to celebrate the 83rd Birthday of H.E. Luding Khenchen Rinpoche. Also present at the ceremony were H.E. Khangsar Shabdrung Rinpoche, who offered His Eminence an explanation of the mandala, and H.E. Luding Shabdrung Rinpoche.

KHÖNDUNG RATNA VAJRA RINPOCHE IN LADAKH: Khöndung Ratna Vajra Rinpoche spent the last ten days of September 2012 in Ladakh, where he visited several monasteries and schools and gave teachings and initiations. Rinpoche spent the major part of his stay at Matho Gompa near Leh, the Ladakhi capital.


KHONDUNG RATNA VAJRA RINPOCHE
IN EUROPE AND ASIA:

On the 25th of May, 2012, Khöndung Ratna Vajra Rinpoche arrived at Sakya Tsechen Ling in Kuttolsheim, France. This was to be Rinpoche's first stop in a European tour that would take him to France, Italy, Spain and Germany and would last until the 15th of July. >READ FULL REPORT

INTERNATIONAL BUDDHIST SANGHA CONFERENCE IN PATNA, BIHAR:

On 5th January 2013, His Holiness the Dalai Lama inaugurated a three-day international Buddhist conference at Buddha Smriti Park in Patna, Bihar. Representing the Sakya Dolma Phodrang, Khöndung Gyana Vajra Rinpoche was among the chief guests at the conference.

The convention was attended by hundreds of scholars, religious leaders and political delegates from numerous countries from around the world, as well as Indian dignitaries including the Chief-Minister of Bihar Shri Nitish Kumar. The Buddhist Conclave highlighted the relevance of Buddhism in today's age, and set as its aim the establishment of a society based on morality, knowledge and spiritual perfection. The new Pataliputra Karuna Stupa in Smriti Park, that is to serve as a centre of learning, stands as a worthy first step in this noble endeavour.


TENSHUG FOR
H.H. THE SAKYA TRIZIN

On the 17th of December, 2012, a Long-Life ceremony was held at the Sakya Centre for His Holiness the Sakya Trizin.

It was offered by the Central Tibetan Administration, which was represented by its Minister of Religion and Culture Kalon Pema Chhinjeor. The ritual, led by Khöndung Ratna Vajra Rinpoche, was also attended by Dalgyab Rinpoche.

Khöndung Ratna Vajra Rinpoche presented His Holiness with a mandala of the universe and auspicious long-life offerings, after which all those present offered their deep respects to His Holiness.



THE ANNUAL SAKYA MÖNLAM
GATHERING AT LUMBINI

The 2012 Annual Sakya Mönlam prayer festival for world peace took place between the 22nd of November and the 1st of December, 2012 and was, as usual, attended by thousands of monastics and lay followers.

KHENPO TITLE CONFERRAL AT THE SAKYA CENTRE: On the 26th of October, 2012, a ceremony took place at the Sakya Centre wherein His Holiness the Sakya Trizin conferred the title of Khenpo to Acharya Jamyang Lekshey, Acharya Chenyang Gyatso and Acharya Thupten Norbu. His Holiness also extended the title of Pönlop to Loppön Rinchen Yambay, Loppön Sherabla and Loppön Yonten Sangpo. The ceremony was very joyful for all present, and the receivers of the new titles were lavished with offerings of khatas, statues and flowers by well-wishers.

ON PILGRIMAGE WITH HIS HOLINESS THE SAKYA TRIZIN: On October 1st, 2012, His Holiness and His family started on a three-week pilgrimage of India’s holy Buddhist sites. His Holiness and His entourage, which also included members of the Sakya Dolma Phodrang and monks from some of His Holiness’ monasteries, travelled to the states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, where they visited some of the most important pilgrimage sites in the country. This was His Holiness’ first pilgrimage in many years, and something that He had been wishing to do for a long time. H.H. THE SAKYA TRIZIN AND KHÖNDUNG GYANA VAJRA RINPOCHE IN EAST ASIA

On the 27th of May 2012, His Holiness the Sakya Trizin and Khöndung Gyana Vajra Rinpoche arrived in Singapore, the first stop of what was to be a three-month teaching tour of East Asia. They were accompanied throughout their journey by Her Eminence Gyalyum Chenmo and, briefly, by Her Eminence Dagmo Sonam Palkyi.
